Although the food may be a bit more expensive than the market, the quality and freshness is worth a splurge\u2014in most cases. These are the foods you should always grab at the farmers\u2019 market, and the ones you\u2019d be better off getting at the store.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Seasonal produce.\u00a0One place where the supermarket simply can\u2019t compete with the farmers\u2019 market? In-season produce. Berries freshly plucked from the field just taste better than fruit shipped in from another country. When you see fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies, don\u2019t hesitate to grab them.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Free-range eggs.\u00a0For the animal lover, buying eggs at the grocery store presents a quandary. Even \u201ccage-free\u201d and \u201cfree-range\u201d eggs could come from chickens that aren\u2019t treated humanely. You can avoid that problem at the farmers\u2019 market, where you can actually chat with the farmer about how he treats his birds.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hormone-free meats.\u00a0You can also meet with local ranchers who take great care in raising their meats and ask them any questions you may have about the processes they use. To the contrary, you almost definitely will. But in most cases, you can get better deals on them if you go directly to the source\u2014a local farm store or stand. That way, you\u2019ll avoid any markup that vendors sometimes add to offset the cost of renting a farmers\u2019 market booth.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Clothing and knick-knacks.\u00a0When you\u2019re at the market, it\u2019s important to keep your eye on the prize. You might see odds and ends, like clothing or crafts, but it\u2019s impossible to gauge the quality of these items unless you know and trust the vendors.
